    • Montgomery Village Golf Course
IDI Corporation recently withdrew its plan to purchase the Montgomery Village Golf Course and turn it into senior citizen housing. This makes the issue of dramatic changes to the Village less pressing. However, research by the Montgomery County Planning Commission and the Montgomery Village Foundation has uncovered discrepancies between what the Foundation Board and residents were told about ownership of private sections of land within the Village's Town Sector Zone and what contracts and the law allow. I pledge to assist the Montgomery Village Foundation in preserving the original Village concept and ensuring that green spaces are preserved as much as possible and residents continue to enjoy safe, attractive areas to walk and play.

    • Development at the Webb Tract
East Village (Montgomery Village) residents have successfully thwarted plans to move the bus depot and other county services from near the Shady Grove Metro Station to the Webb Tract. However, there is still much speculation about how this land -- one of the few remaining large tracts in the Gaithersburg area -- will eventually be used. Traffic is a primary concern. Sensible growth dictates that any development must provide adequate new roads and provisions for parking. At the same time, Snouffer School Road, which adjoins the Webb Tract, cannot handle any significant increase in traffic without substantial widening. Any development of the Webb Tract, therefore, requires careful thought and study of the impact not just on the tract itself but on the surrounding community.
